The primary destinations for China’s tea exports were Hong Kong ($460 million), Morocco ($214 million), Malaysia ($185 million), Vietnam ($107 million), and Ghana ($103 million).
Among these destinations, Hong Kong experienced the most significant growth in tea imports from China between 2020 and 2021, with an increase of $188 million. Malaysia followed suit with a growth of $44 million, and Ghana saw a notable increase of $23.5 million in tea imports from China.
2. Sri Lanka
In 2021, Sri Lanka solidified its position as the second-largest exporter of Tea globally, with tea exports amounting to $1.34 billion. Tea stood out as Sri Lanka’s topmost exported product during the same year. The primary destinations for Sri Lanka’s tea exports were Iraq ($147 million), Russia ($122 million), Turkey ($105 million), the United Arab Emirates ($98.4 million), and Iran ($75.8 million).
Notably, the United Arab Emirates experienced significant growth in tea imports from Sri Lanka between 2020 and 2021, with an increase of $58.6 million. Iraq followed suit with a growth of $34.7 million, and Libya saw a notable increase of $19.1 million in tea imports from Sri Lanka.
3. Kenya
In 2018, Kenya had a significant tea export value of $1.2 billion, ranking as the world’s third-largest tea exporter. Tea also stood out as the top exported product in Kenya during the same year. The primary destinations for Kenyan tea exports were Pakistan, with an export value of $471 million, followed by Egypt with $170 million, the United Kingdom with $114 million, the United Arab Emirates with $68 million, and Russia with $49.8 million.
Between 2020 and 2021, Kenya experienced remarkable growth in its tea export markets. The fastest-growing markets for Kenyan tea during this period were Sudan, with a growth of $35.3 million, followed by the Democratic Republic of the Congo with $23.7 million, and Egypt with $22 million.

5. United Arab Emirates
In 2021, the United Arab Emirates solidified its position as the fifth-largest exporter of tea globally, with tea exports reaching $316 million. Among the export products from the United Arab Emirates, tea held the 87th rank in terms of export volume during the same year. The primary destinations for Vietnamese tea exports were Pakistan ($72.1 million), Chinese Taipei ($28.8 million), Russia ($20 million), China ($14 million), and Iraq ($9.87 million).

The primary destinations for tea exports from the United Kingdom were Ireland, with a value of $26.7 million, followed by the United States with $21 million, Canada with $16.4 million, the Netherlands with $12.9 million, and France with $10.3 million.

In 2021, Indonesia solidified its position as the 13th largest global exporter of tea, with tea exports amounting to $101 million. Among Indonesia’s export commodities, tea ranked 242nd in terms of export volume during the same year. The primary destinations for Indonesia’s tea exports were Malaysia ($12.2 million), Russia ($12 million), Australia ($11.1 million), the United States ($7.29 million), and Chinese Taipei ($4.66 million).
Notably, Thailand emerged as the fastest growing export market for Indonesia’s tea between 2020 and 2021, experiencing a significant increase of $1.1 million. The United Arab Emirates followed suit with notable growth of $647,000, while the Netherlands witnessed a rise of $506,000 in tea imports from Indonesia.

In 2021, Rwanda achieved notable success as an exporter of tea with a total export value of $90.1 million, securing its position as the world’s 14th largest tea exporter. Tea also held a prominent position in Rwanda’s export portfolio, ranking as the 4th most exported product in the country. The primary destinations for Rwandan tea exports included Pakistan, with an export value of $33.1 million, followed by the United Kingdom with $12.7 million, Egypt with $11.4 million, Kazakhstan with $9.01 million, and Kenya with $4.39 million.
During the period between 2020 and 2021, Rwanda experienced impressive growth in its tea export markets. The fastest-growing markets for Rwandan tea during this period were Pakistan, witnessing a growth of $4.42 million, followed by China with $3.1 million, and Kazakhstan with $2.02 million.
15. United States
In 2021, the United States exported $89.5 million worth of tea, positioning itself as the 15th largest tea exporter globally. Within the United States, tea ranked 738th among the most exported products. The primary destinations for tea exports from the United States were Canada ($46.7 million), Japan ($4.05 million), Germany ($3.82 million), Mexico ($3.33 million), and the Netherlands ($3.24 million).
During the period from 2020 to 2021, the United States experienced significant growth in its tea export markets, particularly in Canada ($2.14 million), the Netherlands ($1.6 million), and Germany ($1.41 million).
16. Netherlands
In 2021, the Netherlands established itself as a notable player in the global tea export market, with tea exports reaching a value of $84.7 million. This positioned the Netherlands as the 16th largest exporter of tea worldwide. Within the country, tea ranked as the 610th most exported product for the year.
The primary destinations for tea exports from the Netherlands were Spain, with a value of $13.2 million, followed by Germany with $11.9 million, Belgium with $10.5 million, Poland with $6.78 million, and Austria with $5.58 million.
During the period between 2020 and 2021, the Netherlands experienced significant growth in its tea exports to Germany, with an increase of $4.49 million. Additionally, there was notable growth in tea exports to Finland, with a rise of $1.25 million, and Ireland, with an increase of $1.04 million.

In 2021, Argentina exported $78.7 million worth of tea, ranking as the 17th largest tea exporter globally. Within Argentina, tea held the 91st position among the most exported products. The primary destinations for Argentina’s tea exports were the United States ($53.9 million), Chile ($4.77 million), Germany ($3.68 million), Poland ($3.65 million), and Russia ($2.76 million).
The fastest-growing export markets for Argentine tea between 2020 and 2021 were the United States ($2.45 million), Vietnam ($380,000), and Russia ($367,000).
18. Malawi
In 2021, Malawi emerged as a significant player in the global tea market, with tea exports totaling $64.3 million and ranking it as the 18th largest tea exporter worldwide. Tea also held a prominent position as Malawi’s 5th most exported product during that year. The primary destinations for Malawi’s tea exports were the United Kingdom, with an export value of $15.5 million, followed closely by South Africa with $15 million, the United States with $14.6 million, Germany with $4.75 million, and Poland with $3.4 million.
